For a long time, I’ve tried hard to make Sundays an internet-free day.
In truth, I have no idea how long it’s been since my wife, Rocky, first asked if I’d turn off the internet and social media access and disconnect from the online world to use Sunday as a day to focus on the family. It’s been years, I suppose. There have been Sundays when this has not been true. Some of them have been while Rocky was visiting Kenya, some of them when I’ve been travelling, but 9 out of 10 Sundays, I’m off the grid.
Committing to turning off the computer and stepping away from the digital world each Sunday has been a decision I’ve never regretted. The whole family has benefited, especially me. Our lives are overrun with shiny objects, digital signals, and electronic interruptions. Social media has become an addiction at its worst and a distraction at best.
My Father’s Day Wish
If you’re a Dad reading this post and it’s been awhile since you completely disconnected from the gadgets and distractions that come with our dependence on technology, make this Father’s Day a gift to your family. Give them the gift of your full attention. I promise you, the reward will be huge.

Completely agree. I trying harder every day to get off the gadgets a few hours a day when the kids are home and then some on sunday.
This sunday I won’t because the family is away visiting other family with me at home to take care of the homestead.
I will make a point if they are home next sunday to keep it all turned off for the whole day.
Happy Father’s Day my brother in bawldness

Thank you for this timely reminder. It is much easier for us to discuss these ideas than it is to practice them. Kudos to you and Rocky for sticking to it.
Have a great day with the fam tomorrow!

This is something that I have slowly learned is a MUST. When you are everything from CEO to janitor of your business you feel you have to stay connected & keep things moving at all times.
I’ve learned that once in a while it’s OK to take the weekend off & spend time with family. The business will be there on Monday. I too try to take off most of every Saturday & Sunday each week to spend time with the kids. I’m only going to get to see my son crawl for the first time once. Or teach my daughter to ride a bike. Somethings in life don’t give you second chances and I don’t want to miss them for a possible tweet or email that isn’t responded to in less than 30 minutes.
If it costs me business it’s alright, I know it will be made up in other ways.
